Kunbaa vs Family Life!: Raise a Virtual Family, or Keep Your Own?

Kunbaa is for people who searched "family" and meant theirs (the parents, the cousins, the grandmother whose stories nobody has written down) and want one private place where the family builds its own tree, shares the real photos and never misses a birthday, free for everyone who joins.

  • Everyone in the family joins free
  • Invite-only
  • Nobody's data sold

Who is Kunbaa for?

Drawing the family tree for the first time

Building a family from scratch is fun in a game. Building your own is better, and the pieces already exist: add the people you know on Kunbaa, invite the relatives who know the rest, and the tree fills in from both sides with a real photo and a real birthday on each card. Free, and nothing to grind for.

Families spread across countries

Your real family is in three countries and two languages, and the chat groups have never held all of it. On Kunbaa each branch joins free, the birthdays come off the tree so nobody is forgotten, and the wall is there when each of you wakes up.

New parents with grandparents waiting

The game lets you raise a child in an afternoon. Yours is taking longer, and the grandparents want every photo. Kunbaa puts the baby on the tree beside them, sends each photo to the relatives you choose, and keeps the names and dates in the caption for the day she asks.

What you keep, and what you give up

Family Life! is good at its job. This is the plain list of what changes if your family moves this part of its life to Kunbaa.

What you keep

  • The game, if a game is what you were after. This page is not asking you to give it up.
  • A private tree shared only with your family, which every invited relative can build.
  • Photos and stories with the names written down, beside the people on the tree.
  • Birthdays from the tree, events with reminders, and chat and calls between relatives.
  • One subscription for the payer's household, up to 20 accounts; everyone else joins free.

What you give up

  • Levels, choices and a family that does what you decide. Kunbaa's family is the real one, and its rewards are slower.
  • Playing offline and alone. Kunbaa is only as complete as the relatives you invite.

What Kunbaa does, in detail

01

A tree of the people alive today

Everyone you invite gets their own place on the tree, their photo and their birthday, and adds the relatives only they know. Both sides of the family, each relative adding their own. Relatives who have passed stay where they belong; children are added by adults without an account.

02

The real wedding, the real birthday

Every birthday on the tree becomes a reminder for the family. Plan the wedding or the reunion as an event with a to-do list, keep it to the relatives it concerns, and attach the photos afterwards so the day is kept as a day.

Events and reminders →
Step one of a new event in the Kunbaa app on a phone: pick what is happening, from a birthday or an anniversary to a dinner or a reunion, and give it a name
03

Photos and stories that keep their names

Each photo, video, story and voice note on the wall carries who, where and roughly when in the caption, beside the person on the tree. On Kunbaa Plus and Ultra you choose who sees each post: everyone in the family, the extended family, or just your household. Moments gathers the archive into a timeline.

The wall and Moments →
Moments in the Kunbaa app (sample family): the Walsh family's photos and a voice note, laid out by the day they were shared, each marked with who shared it
04

Chat and calls between relatives

Group and one-to-one chat, and calls that start from a relative's page on the tree: voice and video one-to-one, and group calls of up to 6 people including you on Kunbaa Plus and Ultra, which anyone in the family can join. Only relatives in your family space can ring you. Chat and calls are in the Kunbaa app.

05

Invite-only, nobody's data sold

A Kunbaa family space cannot be searched, and nobody in it is suggested to strangers. Every account is held by an adult, an admin sets per-member permissions, and on Kunbaa Plus and Ultra you decide who sees each post. Kunbaa is private by invitation, not by encryption; the help page says exactly what that means.

Kunbaa vs Family Life!: your questions

More questions? Read the full FAQ or what private means in Kunbaa.

Is Kunbaa a game?

No. Kunbaa is a private app for your real family: a tree the relatives you invite build together, a wall for the photos and stories with the names written down, birthdays and events, and chat and calls in the app. Family Life! is a simulation game about a virtual family. They share a word and nothing else.

I searched for a family app and found the game. Which do I want?

If you wanted somewhere for your own relatives, to see how everyone fits, share the real photos privately and never miss a birthday, you want Kunbaa. Start with the people you know, invite the rest, and the tree fills in. Free to start, with no limit on people in the tree.

Does Kunbaa have ads?

Kunbaa Plus and Ultra have no ads. The free plan has none today, and any ads on it would not be personalised. A Kunbaa family space is invite-only and cannot be searched, nobody's data is sold, and Kunbaa's revenue comes from its paid plans. Family Life! is ad-supported, with an in-app purchase to remove them.

Does Kunbaa work offline?

Kunbaa is a shared space, so it needs a connection to show what the family has added; the app keeps what you have already seen. Family Life! is a single-player game and plays offline, which Kunbaa does not try to match.

What does Kunbaa cost?

Everyone in the family joins Kunbaa free, and the tree has no limit on people. Kunbaa Plus is $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, paid by one person, and keeps the family's archive: longer videos, room for the whole family's photos, and chat photos kept while the family is on Plus. There are no passes, packs or coupons.

Can children be on a Kunbaa tree?

Yes. Children are added to the tree by an adult and appear in the photos; they do not hold an account, because every Kunbaa account is for adults aged 18 and over. Adults keep it; kids are in it.

Your family is already here. Give it a place.

Put the people you know on a private tree, invite the relatives who remember the rest, and let the real photos and stories gather beside the people they belong to.
Everyone in the family joins free. When you want room for the whole archive, one person takes Kunbaa Plus at $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, about $8.33 a month for the payer's household.
