Kunbaa vs Tinybeans: The Baby's Journal, or the Family's?
Kunbaa is for families who want the new baby's photos to land beside the grandparents' stories, on a tree that shows how everyone fits, a private space the whole family joins free, rather than a journal of one child that the relatives are invited to watch.
- Everyone in the family joins free
- Invite-only
- Nobody's data sold

Quick answer
Tinybeans is a private journal of your child: photos and videos by date, shared with invited relatives, and turned into photo books, with a paid Tinybeans Plus tier. Kunbaa is a private, invite-only space for the whole family, built on a real tree: every relative joins free, the baby goes on the tree beside the grandparents, each photo carries who, where and when in the caption, birthdays become reminders, and chat and calls live in the app. Kunbaa makes no photo books; Tinybeans has no family tree.

What you keep, and what you give up
Tinybeans is good at its job. This is the plain list of what changes if your family moves this part of its life to Kunbaa.
What you keep
- Tinybeans, if a beautiful printed photo book of the first year is the job. Many families will run both.
- A private tree shared only with your family, which every invited relative can build.
- Photos and stories with the names written down, beside the people on the tree.
- Birthdays from the tree, events with reminders, and chat and calls between relatives.
- One subscription for the payer's household, up to 20 accounts; everyone else joins free.
What you give up
- Photo books and prints. Kunbaa makes none.
- A day-by-day journal view built around one child's milestones.
- Tinybeans' polish for the first years. It has been doing this job for a long time.
- A bulk export of your photos: Kunbaa does not have one yet, and says so on its help page.
What Kunbaa does, in detail
The baby goes on the tree beside the grandparents
Everyone you invite gets their own place on the tree, their photo and their birthday. A child is added by a parent and sits on the tree with the great-grandparents above them, so the family can see how everyone fits, from both sides.
The Kunbaa family tree →
Photos that keep their names, for everyone
Each photo, video, story and voice note on the wall carries who, where and roughly when in the caption, beside the person on the tree, the baby's first steps and Nani's wedding photo from 1974 alike. On Kunbaa Plus and Ultra you choose who sees each post: everyone in the family, the extended family, or just your household.
Who can see a post →
Birthdays and gatherings
Every birthday on the tree becomes a reminder for the family. Plan the naming ceremony or the first birthday as an event with a to-do list, keep it to the relatives it concerns, and attach the photos afterwards so the day is kept as a day.
Events and reminders →
Chat and calls between relatives
Group and one-to-one chat, and calls that start from a relative's page on the tree: voice and video one-to-one, and group calls of up to 6 people including you on Kunbaa Plus and Ultra, which anyone in the family can join. Only relatives in your family space can ring you. Chat and calls are in the Kunbaa app.
Chat and calls in Kunbaa →Invite-only, nobody's data sold
A Kunbaa family space cannot be searched, and nobody in it is suggested to strangers. Every account is held by an adult, an admin sets per-member permissions, and on Kunbaa Plus and Ultra you decide who sees each post. Kunbaa is private by invitation, not by encryption; the help page says exactly what that means.

Is Kunbaa an alternative to Tinybeans?
It depends on the job. If what you want is a private journal of your child's first years with a photo book at the end, Tinybeans is built for exactly that. Kunbaa is the alternative when you want the whole family in one private place: a real tree with everyone's place and birthday on it, and a wall where the baby's photos and the grandparents' stories sit side by side, with the names and dates written down.
Does Tinybeans have a family tree?
As of September 2026, no. Tinybeans is organised as a journal of a child's moments by date, which is what it is designed to be. If a family tree matters to you (knowing who everyone is, how they are related, and having everyone's birthday on it) that is the core of Kunbaa, with the family's archive kept beside it.
Can grandparents use Kunbaa?
They are the point. Any adult in the family can hold a free account, get their own place on the tree with their birthday on it, and see what the family chooses to share with them. What a grandparent shares (a scanned photo, a story told as a voice note) is kept with the names and dates written down. Relatives who never post can simply look.
Does Kunbaa make photo books?
No. Kunbaa keeps the family's archive on screens, in a private space the whole family can open, and does not print. If a photo book is the job, Tinybeans does that well.
What does Kunbaa cost next to Tinybeans?
Everyone in the family joins Kunbaa free, and the tree has no limit on people. Kunbaa Plus is $9.99 a month or $99.99 a year, paid by one person, and keeps the family's archive: longer videos, room for the whole family's photos, and chat photos kept while the family is on Plus. Tinybeans Plus is listed at A$7.99 a month or A$74.99 a year on the Australian App Store, as of September 2026.
Can I get my photos back out of Kunbaa?
One at a time, yes; as a bulk download, not yet. Kunbaa says so plainly on its help page rather than in small print, and the archive is never deleted while the family keeps it. Read that page before you choose. Getting your data out.
